Frame counting

One problem when using Super 8 cameras, is the lack of an accurate footage counter. For most applications this isn't crucial, but if you're doing stop-frame animation or you're in a single cartridge film competition you're going to need to know how many frames you've shot from the 3,600 or so in your film pack.

Flicker LA have a handy guide to building a simple frame counter for use with any camera with a Flash socket. Using a $19.95 electronics kit from electronickits.com (who also have the circuit .pdf on their site), a soldering iron and bit of nouse, you won't be in the dark anymore. Roll 'em cowboy!
