Kodachrome deadlines!
Very important news for users of Kodachrome Super 8 and 16mm film stock in Europe, read on... Following last year's announcement of the end of production of Kodachrome in Super 8, Kodak have today announced that August 1st 2006 will be the last day of processing of Kodachrome 40 film stock at its laboratory in Lausanne, Switzerland. No further processing of Kodachrome Super 8 stock will be undertaken by Kodak after that date, and any remaining users will have to use Dwayne's in the USA as an alternative lab facility, at their own cost.
Kodachrome 16mm film with processing costs included was also discontinued this year, and with stock depleted, final sales of this product occurred in February. Customers who have purchased Kodachrome 16mm film with processing costs included have until December 31, 2006 to process that film with Kodak. After that date, customers will have to again seek an alternative at their own cost.
According to Kim Snyder, general manager and vice president for Image Capture products, Entertainment Imaging at Eastman Kodak Company, "The rationale to discontinue these specific product lines was entirely driven by marketplace dynamics. In line with the discontinuance, we will also cease to offer processing for those particular films within the year."
