DVD - Kodachrome and more
Good news for those still mourning Kodachrome on Super 8, there's a brand new limited edition DVD entitled 'In Memoriam: Kodachrome!' which captures the sights and sounds of the now deceased, but still loved film stock.Juergen Lossau, the brains behind the smallformat magazine, and Heiko Riemann had the foresight to visit the Kodak Kodachrome plant in Switzerland shortly before its closure earlier this year. 'Death of the Yellow Bag' is a 20-minute documentary that visits the world famous lab in Lausanne and includes moving interviews with the lab manager and his colleagues, along with a behind-the-scenes look at the last Kodak Super 8 Kodachrome facility in the world and the operation of its complex 14 bath process. The film is in German and English.
Also included on the DVD is an musical ode to the stock entitled 'Kodachrome', cut to Paul Simon's famous track of the same name, plus a vintage promo film for the Kodak Super 8 Instamatic camera and a fifteen minute slice of period Elmo gear-porn. A clip from the 'Kodachrome' music video can be seen here on YouTube.
